What are the Bord Gáis Energy Student Theatre Awards?
The Bord Gáis Energy Student Theatre Awards recognise and rewards participation in the dramatic arts in schools across Ireland. Since its inception in 2013, over 1,000 schools have participated in the programme. Don’t miss your chance to get involved this year.

You're in with a chance to attend an 'Oscars' style awards ceremony at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre on 17 May 2017, with selected schools invited to perform on the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre stage!
Who can enter?
Primary: Pupils from 3rd to 6th class (in the case of whole school productions, pupils from junior infants to 6th class may enter).
Secondary: All secondary school students.
What can I enter?
Play or Musical Production: Whatever your students have lined up this year, be it a large scale school production, a small class play or a group musical number, there is a category in the Bord Gáis Energy Student Theatre Awards that they can enter. Any production put on between January 2016 and January 2017 is eligible.
Written Review and/or Short Scene Script: If you have aspiring writers in your class, you can submit your students’ own short script or a review of a production that they have seen.

This year there are 10 production categories and 2 written categories.

Best Original Production
Best Male Performance in a Leading Role
Best Female Performance in a Leading Role
Best Performance in a Supporting Role
Best Musical Number

Deadline for production entries: 27 January.
Deadline for written entries: 10 February.
Shortlist announced: 15 March (please note this date is subject to change).
Awards ceremony: 17 May.
About the Awards Ceremony.
In each category the top 3 schools will be shortlisted. A number of teachers and students from all shortlisted schools will also be invited to attend a prestigious ‘Oscars’ style awards ceremony, on 17 May 2017 in the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, hosted by a very special guest MC. This spectacular event promises to be an unforgettable day, which aims to recognise and reward schools for their participation, talent and excellence in the dramatic arts.
All shortlisted schools will receive their very own plaque and a group school picture at the Awards Ceremony in honour of their achievement. The lucky winning school will be invited on stage to receive their trophy and prize.
As well as the fun and excitement at the Awards Ceremony, a select number of schools will be given the opportunity to perform on the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre stage (Ireland’s largest theatre stage) making it a memorable experience that we promise they won’t forget!
